Google owned video sharing service YouTube would soon offer movies on rental basis.

This is the latest attempt by the search engine giant to make this service profitable for them.

For starters, YouTube would offer on rent some of the movies that are part of the upcoming Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

YouTube would make available around five movies as a test for $3.99 for a 48-hour viewing period.

Movie studios in general would be able to set their own price and time duration. YouTube would get part of the revenues generated from this process.

It remains to be seen how popular YouTube becomes in the rental movie market.
