We Care Home Health Services announced today it has received Accreditation Canada’s Leading Practice Award for the implementation of technology that significantly improves the safety of front line staff while reducing their administrative tasks.
The STAR Trak program is a mobile technology solution and customized application that allows front line, traveling homecare staff (including personal support workers, health care aides and nurses) to access information and support on their mobile device, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of their work.
Implemented as a pilot project by We Care in 2009, workers are equipped with BlackBerry Smartphones that carry the STAR Trak technology. Designed to track the time and duration of homecare visits for each client, STAR Trak enhances productivity while providing increased safety and security for clients and staff. If a frontline worker does not confirm they have completed their shift within 15 minutes of their scheduled end time, STAR Track prompts the office to call and check on the client and front line worker’s safety.
“Because homecare staff mostly work in isolation – away from their peers and office staff – the STAR Trak program allows them to consult remotely with real time access to their colleagues, providing enhanced service delivery and client care capabilities,” said John Schram, President and CEO of We Care Home Health Services. “We also wanted to create a solution that addresses the safety and security of clients and staff, in the event of an emergency situation.”
We Care also continued its success in receiving Full Accreditation without Condition in Manitoba and Saskatchewan from Accreditation Canada. This award means that Manitoba and Saskatchewan join five other regions and the Head Office of We Care in this achievement.
