VMware announced VMware Cloud on AWS is now available in the AWS Canada (Central) region.
VMware Cloud on AWS brings VMware’s enterprise class Software-Defined Data Center to the AWS Cloud, and enables customers to run production applications across VMware vSphere-based private, public and hybrid cloud environments, with optimized access to AWS services and robust disaster protection. Jointly engineered by VMware and AWS, this on-demand service enables IT teams to seamlessly extend, migrate and manage their cloud-based resources with familiar VMware tools.
A broad range of customers around the world are already using VMware Cloud on AWS, across industries such as transportation, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, oil and gas, government, education, professional services, and technology. Previously, customers with no requirements for data to reside within Canada could use VMware Cloud on AWS from any one of the U.S. regions. However, data sovereignty is an issue for some Canadian firms in highly regulated industries with strict compliance requirements. With today’s announcement, Canadian organizations now have access to this powerful hybrid cloud service from an AWS region located inside Canada.
Popular enterprise use cases include: cloud migration, ranging from business critical applications to entire data centers; data center extension to satisfy cyclical capacity, extend to new geographies, scale virtual desktops or enable new application development and testing; and Disaster Recovery (DR), whether to replace legacy solutions, implement a new DR strategy, or protect additional workloads in the context of their existing DR solutions.
VMware Cloud on AWS is delivered, sold and supported by VMware and its partner community in Canada. With the same architecture and operational experience on-premises and in the cloud, IT teams can now quickly derive instant business value from use of the AWS and VMware hybrid cloud experience.
“Availability of VMware Cloud on AWS in Canada changes the game for Canadian companies looking to deploy a hybrid cloud strategy,” said Paul Kerr, president and CEO of Scalar. “A hybrid cloud strategy is critical to building a strong digital foundation and we believe the ability to keep data in Canada will accelerate use of public cloud in Canada over the next year.”
