Unicon Systems, developers of CCOTS(TM) mobile devices and scalable Systems-on-Display (SoD(TM)) technology for mobile applications, has been awarded The LinuxWorld 2008 “Best Mobility solution” Product Excellence Award for its Hermes, a next generation mobile device.

The Hermes Mobile Platform combines an advanced ARM architecture CPU with a rich set of peripherals in an ultra-slim form factor. To meet the growing demand for a platform for converged mobile devices, Hermes offers a modular, customizable system featuring a 4.3″ touch screen integrated with a chip-on-film computer for mobile applications, especially for OEMs and integrators deploying Open Source Linux.

Integrated Software-Hardware Platform

The Unicon Systems Hermes platform is ready for installation of any Linux-based phone/PDA/communication packages, including ACCESS Linux Platform, Google Android and a range of other commercial and community developed mobile Linux stacks. Unicon Systems eases the chore of hardware-software integration by providing a flexible Platform Developer Kit (PDK) that includes a sample Linux kernel port and a full set of working device drivers for the broad range of integrated peripherals.

“Unicon Systems modular CCOTS approach to designing Hermes offers phenomenal flexibility and differentiation potential for OEMs and integrators of mobile devices,” noted Marius Kaz, CEO Unicon Systems. “For industrial, medical, consumer electronics and many other applications, Hermes is a perfect technical and business solution, providing a very short path to market at a very aggressive cost.”

Based on a Samsung 533 MHz dual-core ARM11 processor, Unicon Systems Hermes supports a rich selection of hardware modules that can be customized to meet the needs of specific applications. In particular, Hermes features

  • WiFi, Bluetooth and GSM wireless
  • Camera for mobile/webcam applications
  • Accelerometer
  • Multimedia Audio/Video DSP
  • NFC for electronic payment processing, and other secure wireless operations
  • Advanced power management
  • Available micro SD-card reader
