The New York Times has launched their free mobile app for the Google Android mobile platform.

The app is pretty similar to their Apple iPhone app. It allows for quick access to the content hosted on their website optimized for the smaller screen.

The homepage of the app showcases the top stories at any given time. Users get the ability to share their favorite content through supported third party apps.

The app also support caching for offline reading. Users can also change the font size as per their liking.

The New York Times is expected to go paid early next year. It is not clear what they would do with these free apps at that time.
