TELUS enhances international roaming with BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone

    TELUS the availability CDMA/GSM BlackBerry(R) 8830 World Edition smartphone. TELUS also announced the expansion of its global roaming services to enable clients with the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition to use voice and data services internationally on GSM/GPRS networks(*).

    TELUS’ enhanced global roaming service provides users of the BlackBerry 8830 with voice calling and an “always-on, always connected” wireless e-mail solution for access to e-mail, contacts, calendar, organizer and the Web while travelling internationally.

    In North America, users get access to CDMA’s superior coverage, including access to high-speed, broadband-like wireless data downloads with EVDO – Canada’s fastest coast-to-coast 3G wireless network. With typical download speeds of approximately 400 to 700 kilobits per second and maximum possible speeds of more than 2 megabits per second, EVDO offers download speeds that are more than five times faster than GSM EDGE technology thereby providing clients with a superior experience throughout North America. Wireless high-speed is currently available to more than two-thirds of Canadians and throughout 242 U.S. cities. Where the wireless high-speed (EVDO) network is not available, the BlackBerry 8830 will function throughout TELUS’ 1X network, which offers digital coverage to more than 94 per cent of Canadians.
