Symbol Technologies, Inc. today introduced the MC1000, a new value-priced enterprise mobility tool designed to improve operational efficiency in the retail, manufacturing, warehouse and logistics industries.  The new MC1000 expands Symbol’s rugged mobile computer product portfolio with a cost-effective, feature-rich handheld device that enables organizations to automate processes and efficiently capture data.

“The new MC1000 handheld computer provides an enterprise mobility tool to address our supply chain and customer demand chain needs,” said Kevin Huang, IT operations manger, ICI Paints. “With a highly ergonomic and lightweight design, the MC1000 provides an affordable solution to reduce employee training requirements and increase productivity and profitability.”

The MC1000 provides flexibility for data capture and numeric entry applications such as inventory management, stock checking, delivery confirmation and other scan-intensive applications. Potential end-users include retail clerks responsible for inventory management and re-ordering, warehouse and distribution workers in charge of shelf audit, picking and cycle count, and delivery persons and route accounting drivers handling delivery confirmation.

“As a global market leader in rugged mobile computing, Symbol is further expanding its product line to offer a handheld computer that provides emerging markets and small to medium-sized businesses with an enterprise tool to meet business needs,” said Chester “Chet” Pribonic, vice president and general manager of mobile computing, Symbol Technologies. “Symbol aimed to design the MC1000 to be more user-friendly and versatile than other value-priced handhelds on the market and to deliver a total enterprise mobility system that can help organizations reduce costs, improve productivity, and increase profits.”

The MC1000’s ergonomic design and feature set, combined with the ability to easily upgrade memory and wireless capabilities, provides investment protection for organizations as their business needs grow.  Symbol’s new rugged mobile computer also offers a high quality laser scan engine for data capture and utilizes the standards-based Microsoft Windows CE operating system to deliver a familiar, easy-to-use interface for increased productivity and improved employee efficiency.

“With a standards-based Windows CE operating system, Symbol’s MC1000 delivers an enterprise mobility tool for developing targeted applications for our customers,” said Thomas Chau, general manager, Schmidt & Co., Ltd. “The MC1000 handheld puts affordable technology in reach of small to medium-sized businesses seeking an enterprise tool to meet business needs.”

The Symbol MC1000 mobile computer can be equipped with Symbol’s Mobility Services Platform (MSP) to collect and monitor product information and then deliver critical terminal information to a centralized Symbol MSP console. This feature will help customers better address the growing challenges associated with deploying, managing and maintaining enterprise mobility systems. MSP enables enterprise operations personnel to rapidly deploy the MC1000 mobile computer and provision software upgrades and fixes with a single command.

Symbol’s Global Services Division offers a complete suite of services designed to meet the support requirements of mobile products in the enterprise.  Services developed to meet the specific needs of the MC1000 mobile computer include Service Center Support – Bronze and Service from the Start – Bronze, which delivers seamless coverage, defined telephone technical support and three-day turnaround time for product repair to help customers derive value from their investment.
