Sony of Canada Ltd. today unveiled the VPL-CX85 Data Projector, a new wireless video projector that bridges the gap between networked sophistication and first-time-presenter simplicity.
Weighing just 8 pounds, 7 ounces or 3.8 kilograms, the Sony VPL-CX85 is a portable projector that can be easily transported between meeting rooms or used as a permanently installed unit. It comes with a wireless 802.11b network card and a USB (universal serial bus) adapter with the installation software pre-loaded for speedy use. This 3000 ANSI lumens projector delivers bright and clear images in native XGA (1028 X 768 pixels) resolution.
Featuring an intelligent set-up that automatically performs keystone correction (vertical and horizontal), a powered lens and the ability to store settings, the model is easy to turn on and start a presentation.
The VPL-CX85 has two RGB inputs and one RGB monitor out, with the option to deliver a presentation without a PC through the use of MemoryStick® flash media. Critical for education applications, the RGB monitor out allows teachers to view their lecture on a desktop monitor while presenting to students in the classroom.
The model comes with two remote controls. One is a basic presentation remote and the other is a compact presentation remote that includes slide advancement buttons and a laser pointer.
To keep presentation information secure, the VPL-CX85 also comes equipped with password protection that prompts users for a pre-determined password before it will start. To further deter thieves, the unit will not operate without entering a self-assigned password. Would-be thieves see a sticker warning that the projector will not operate without a password.
Available in April, the VPL-CX85 projector will have a suggested list price of $5,995.
