Apple iPod might be the market leader today in the portable media player segment but this market was originally created by Sony Walkman.
Sony Walkman has turned 30 years old today.
The device was revolutionary at that time and it changed the way people listened to music.
Sony unfortunately did not change with time and it enabled Apple to become the dominating player in this market.
The original Walkman came with innovative features like dual headphone sockets, independent volume control for the left and right audio channels and others.
Sony has been trying hard to make a comeback by launching new range of Walkman devices with features like touchscreen interfaces and others but the coolness factor associated with the brand name no longer exists. BBC did an experiment related to the Walkman and the results were rather interesting!
