Sony Computer Entertainment America unveiled today its newly revamped website, http://www.us.playstation.com/ . Just in time for the November 17 launch of the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the site will serve as the premiere consumer destination for information and content related to the entire PlayStation family: PLAYSTATION 3, PlayStation 2, and PSP (PlayStationPortable) entertainment systems and all PlayStation software titles.

“The re-designed PlayStation.com site will better serve our customers’ needs in terms of content and accessibility,” said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “The heavily visited site will be our calling card for introducing consumers to the PS3 , and will continue to be the premier destination for information on all experiences found only in our PlayStation portfolio of products.”

Architecture and Design:

The sleek, modern design and deep architecture of the new site are just two of the major changes that visitors will notice. The overall experience of the new PlayStation.com highlights the creativity and innovation that consumers have come to expect from the PlayStation brand. Drawing inspiration from the PLAYSTATION 3 system’s widescreen display, the site now supports a 1024×768 browser size and cinematic game imagery. Consumers can easily access each PlayStation system’s dedicated section, which reflects its respective brand identity in both design and information.

Multimedia Content:

The new PlayStation.com “Media and Downloads” area serves up more multimedia content than ever before. Consumers can access content typically found only on magazine pack-in discs, such as downloadable screens, game trailers, PlayStation TV spots and PSP game demos and system updates. PS3 game trailers will be available in four different versions of high definition, and will take advantage of the site’s widescreen cinematic design. With a flash video player present on thousands of site pages, game action can now be viewed throughout the site. New functionality and robust searching tools also allow users to refine requests without having to reload the webpage.

Multimedia will also play a much larger role when visitors are logged into their free PlayStation Underground account. Members can easily mark content as a “favorite” and revisit it in the new “My Media” section while logged into their account, applying filters to access content by type or platform.

Education:

Aiming to increase overall awareness of PlayStation products, the site will not only delight in terms of look and feel, but by providing easy access to information about the entire PlayStation family of products. Visitors will find informational videos, console feature descriptions, fact sheets, instructional content, and high resolution images, making PlayStation.com the preeminent online destination for consumers looking to make their next gaming purchase. Additionally, by providing console informational content in three categories: “About the Console,” “Using the Console,” and “Support for the Console,” consumers can access the level of information best suited for their needs.
