When students arrive on college campuses across Canada this fall, they will have the opportunity to take advantage of one of higher education’s most exciting trends: textbook rental. Follett of Canada, the nation’s leading provider of college and university bookstore services, today announced that its popular Rent-A-Text textbook rental program will be offered to its entire network of Canadian partners beginning fall 2011. Last year, Follett of Canada saved students more than $500,000 in a pilot program at six Canadian locations. Rent-A-Text saves students 50 percent or more off the cover price of the most popular textbooks.
“Our value-driven rental program offers students convenience, promised savings and multiple ways to pay, including financial aid and campus cards,” said Thomas A. Christopher, President of Follett of Canada. “Follett has been at the forefront of cost-savings programs for more than a century and textbook rental is just one of many ways we are working with college and university administrators to drive down the cost of course materials.”
Follett of Canada’s Rent-A-Text program, which will continue to be managed locally and draw on materials and merchandise sourced from Canadian publishers, is available to students at their local bookstore and online through efollett.com. Rent-A-Text allows students the freedom to highlight and take notes all within the normal wear and tear associated with coursework.
The company’s Canadian expansion will build on the already strong student savings and satisfaction with the program across North America. Follett Higher Education Group has already saved students more than $100 million USD since the beginning of the 2010 academic year. Follett also reported that 99 percent of students would rent again from the bookstore, according to a national survey conducted by the company.
Follett of Canada will release additional information about Rent-A-Text availability beginning this summer. For additional information, visit www.follettofcanada.ca.
