After almost a year since PopCaps Games announced that its highly successful game “Plants vs. Zombies” will be having a sequel by “late spring of 2013,” the company has finally confirmed a smaller timeframe when the new game would be released. Stephanie Bayer, PvZ’s Community Marketing Manager, tweeted that the sequel–appropriately called “Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time”–will finally be launched in July.
The announcement is accompanied with PopCap Games posting a teaser video of Plants vs Zombies 2 on the PvZ’s YouTube channel. In it, the company pokes fun of itself as frustrated gamers yell and ask PopCap about when would they come up with a follow-up to their popular title. It has been four years since the original Plants vs. Zombies first appeared on Mac and PC before making its way to other platforms like PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, Nintendo DS, Google Chrome, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, and even Samsung’s little-known Bada OS.
It is perhaps the success of Plants vs. Zombies the reason why Electronic Arts acquire PopCap Games in 2011.
Despite the official announcement, it remains unclear which platform Plants vs Zombies 2 would be released. Would it exclusively cater on mobile devices or provide versions for handheld gaming devices? Would the sequel touch its roots and come up with Mac and PC versions as well? Looks like we will just have to wait. After all, those zombies can be quite slow.
