Oracle has announced that they are discontinuing development for the Intel Itanium processor platform.
The company said that they have had several meetings with Intel representatives and it is now pretty clear that Intel is totally focused on x86 microprocessor series and Itanium is no longer a supported platform.
Microsoft and Red Hat are two other major software companies that no longer provide software solutions for the Itanium platform.
Oracle clarified that they would continue to support their customers who have existing contracts with them related to Itanium platform.
