More than 3,000 vuvuzela-blaring Hackathon participants blew their way into the New Hack City and Codechella tents at the Redmond campus to work on projects that brought together team members from all over the company.

All around the world, more than 12,000 Microsoft employees got ready to hunker down for the next three days, working together to solve a myriad of problems as the company commenced its annual celebration of hacking culture with the //oneweek Hackathon Monday. More than 200 patents were filed last year, and 40 percent of participants were not engineers. About 80 percent were new to hacking.
