Nikon Canada Inc. announces the new COOLPIX S3, one of its new “S series” of COOLPIX cameras. Hot on the heels of the exceptionally popular COOLPIX S1 and S2, the COOLPIX S3 is slim, elegant and ultra-portable. Its 6.0 effective megapixels give you greater shooting performance, and it’s loaded with innovative functions to improve images in-camera. This is digital photography at its easiest and most convenient.
The COOLPIX S3’s sleek aluminum exterior is as comfortable in the hand as it is appealing to the eye. The sharp 35-105mm 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens* (35mm equivalent) fits neatly into the camera’s surprisingly slim 19.7mm depth. Making use of Nikon’s “right-angled” optics system, the lens functions throughout its focal range without protruding from the camera body. A large, bright 2.5-inch LCD monitor eliminates the need for a viewfinder, and lets you easily review your shots on the spot. The Graphic User Interface (GUI) further eases operation, letting you select functions by name or icon, while a handy HELP button displays easy-to-understand explanations for menu functions, in your choice of 12 languages.
Designed for swift, efficient performance, the COOLPIX S3 lets you take up to 190 shots with a single Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery EN-EL8 (battery and charger included). You’re ready to shoot at a moment’s notice with a speedy start-up time of approximately one second and continuous shooting at up to 1.6 fps.
COOLPIX S3 Features
Nikon’s easy-to-use in-camera features help you get the most enjoyment and satisfaction out of digital photography. The D-Lighting function rescues shots with insufficient exposure, automatically adding detail and light where necessary. The unique Face-priority AF automatically focuses on a human face in the frame, helping you get the best possible portraits. The In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically corrects those dreaded red eyes, and the convenient Blur Warning alerts you when a shot has been compromised by camera shake, so you can shoot it again for better results.
Shooting portraits, sunsets, landscapes and under water – any of the most common shooting scenarios – is quick and easy with 17 Scene Modes to help you. Select the appropriate mode for the shot you want, and the camera automatically selects the optimal settings. Underwater Scene Mode gives you true-to-life colours (used with the Waterproof Case WP-CP5, sold separately). Four of these Scene Modes feature Scene Assist to help you compose your shots for best effects.
The COOLPIX S3 comes complete with the COOL-STATION MV-11. More than just a charging cradle, the COOL-STATION lets you charge the battery while still in the camera and provides a direct USB connection to a computer. You can connect it to a TV to view your pictures, or to a PictBridge-enabled printer for printing without a computer.
With the COOLPIX S3 you can shoot high-quality movies too, in four different movie modes, three with sound, plus a time-lapse mode Nikon’s proprietary user-friendly PictureProject software is supplied and adds to your enjoyment, letting you easily to edit, organize and share images through a wide range of functions.
