Riverstone Networks, a pioneer in Carrier Ethernet solutions, announced that it commanded 22 percent of the world’s carrier Ethernet switch/router market during the four-quarter period ending in June 2005. According to a new report by industry analyst firm Heavy Reading, “Carrier Ethernet Switch/Router Quarterly Market Tracker,” Riverstone’s marketshare is second only to that of industry giant Cisco Systems among a field of 10 equipment providers.
The competitive analysis, authored by Heavy Reading’s Senior Analyst Stan Hubbard, is based upon extensive conversations with equipment vendors and network operators, and builds upon a companion technology trends report released earlier this month titled “Carrier Ethernet Equipment Market Outlook.” According to the report, Riverstone’s visionary technology and its advocacy of converged networks has played a significant role in its industry leadership, keeping the company highly competitive despite a rapidly growing number of vendors, many sizeable, entering the market.
“Long before the industry even began defining carrier Ethernet, Riverstone was working with service providers around the world to deploy it,” said David Ginsburg, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, Riverstone Networks. “Our singular focus, real-world experience and commitment to work harder than the competition count a lot among carriers who are serious about their residential triple play and business services roll outs. This also holds true for those determined to create an efficient network infrastructure, be it wireline or wireless.”
In a report published in June 2004, Heavy Reading gave Riverstone its top rating for Ethernet technology, citing Riverstone as having the product depth, breadth and focus to not only succeed but to potentially rise to the top of the Carrier Ethernet market.
