Westcon-Comstor first move since being acquired by Synnex is to add Cisco IP phones with Multiplatform Firmware to its ForgeServe device-provisioning and lifecycle management solution.
This solution now includes models in the Cisco IP 6800, 7800, and 8800 series. The addition of Cisco IP Phones with Multiplatform Firmware is being targeted at solution providers who have the ability to deliver automated phone provisioning along with bringing other management functions.
One of the key aspects of this type of practice is automated phone provisioning – sometimes referred to as remote customization or RC – which helps solution providers setup redirection for their Cisco IP Phones.
Coming out of the Synnex/Westcon-Comstor deal, ForgeServe launched as a cloud-based SaaS, global supply chain solution for the distributor’s Unified Communications and Collaboration Solutions Practice. The suite was developed as a partnership with Swoop Datacom Ltd.
Swoop Datacom developed ForgeServe, a multi-tier, vendor agnostic device provisioning and life-cycle management platform. ForgeServe was built for the solution provider with a toolbox of deployment, maintenance and support features. With ForgeServe, the channel can nurture long term customer retention by allowing users to adopt the latest IP technologies while also bridging the gap between traditional telecoms and IP based SIP technology adoption.
John Bennett, CEO of Swoop Datacom, said the company has worked extensively to ensure that ForgeServe offers a comprehensive feature set for all vendors that we support, and Cisco has long been a must-have vendor for Swoop Datacom. The collaboration between ForgeServe and Cisco can be huge for managed services providers who are currently selling or new to Cisco IP Phones with Multiplatform Firmware.
According to Westcon-Comstor, automated phone provisioning, combined with estate management and device real-time change control, can reduce customers’ operating expenses while helping solution providers increase margins in competitive markets.
Tim Dick, vice president of Global Partner Management at Westcon-Comstor, said the addition of Cisco IP Phones into the ForgeServe portfolio demonstrates an ongoing commitment to deliver services that channel partners can leverage to strengthen customer relationships.
He expects Cisco solution providers to find automated phone provisioning and other management capabilities as an opportunity to enhance their reputations as innovative and trusted business partners with clients.
Another area of focus for solution providers is on supply chain-as-a-service or SCaaS. SCaaS can create an end-to-end catalog of top supply chain solutions from 18 logistics centers around the world, including: order logistics, new product introduction, integrated global solutions, procurement, inbound logistics, customized kitting and assembly, configuration, order fulfillment and reverse logistics.
