Microsoft gets EU’s permission to acquire Skype

European Commission has given their permission for this deal which is costing Microsoft around USD 8.5 billion.

US FTC has already given their approval and the company is now waiting for similar confirmations from smaller markets like Ukraine, Russia, Serbia and Taiwan.

Microsoft is likely to offer integrated Skype connectivity in the next edition of Windows operating system. It is also likely to get deeply integrated in their smartphone platform Windows Phone in the future editions.

Industry analysts are however not sure how Microsoft would be able to recover the investment they have made in Skype and how long it would take them to make it profitable for themselves.
