McAfee, Inc., the global leader in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, and Gateway, Inc., the third largest PC company in the U.S. and among the top ten worldwide, announced an exclusive two-year agreement to preinstall the McAfee Internet Security Suite on all Gateway and eMachines PCs for both the consumer direct and retail product lines.
McAfee Internet Security Suite will be preinstalled on all PCs sold worldwide starting the end of this year. Consumers will get a free 90-day complimentary subscription to the McAfee Internet Security Suite, after which they can purchase a subscription. In addition, McAfee will be the exclusive security provider for Gateway’s “Configure to Order” service for 15 month, 24 month or 36 month licenses to the McAfee Internet Security Suite. This allows consumers who order a PC directly from Gateway to purchase McAfee Internet Security Suite and have the software already preinstalled on the PC.
McAfee Internet Security Suite 2006 helps prevent viruses, spyware, hackers, and “phishing” scams that may result in identity theft and potential damage, including permanent loss, of irreplaceable documents and files, such as digital photos and personal financial data. The software program also prohibits unauthorized access to and from the Internet, blocks unwanted or persistent pop-up ads and annoying potentially unwanted programs which may lead to poor PC performance, filters unwanted and offensive Internet and e- mail content, and offers parental controls. Automated, daily updates download seamlessly in the background to keep PCs protected from recently discovered
virus and spyware threats. Product updates are included for free during the subscription period.
The virus protection that forms the core of the McAfee Internet Security Suite, McAfee VirusScan, has been awarded PC Magazine’s “Editors’ Choice” award.
