IBM Canada announced that Shared Services Canada (SSC), has selected IBM to provide and manage enterprise data centre space as part of the Canadian government's data centre consolidation initiative.
IBM delivers data centre and cloud computing capabilities to major government agencies worldwide to securely manage mission-critical workloads. It processes more than 5.5 million client transactions daily through its public cloud, with nodes in Toronto and other major centres worldwide. IBM was selected through a competitive procurement process launched in February 2014
“There’s never been a more important time for industry and government to share best-practices as Canada continues this important transformation and adapts to new trends like cloud, big data, mobile and social computing,” said David Anthony, director, IBM’s federal public sector business in Canada.
“We are very pleased to have been selected to deliver modern data centre space so the Government of Canada can establish the IT backbone to provide Canadians with continuous connectivity to the services they need as the government transforms to a model that can securely evolve at the pace of today’s digital world,” he added.
In Canada, IBM applies more than 35 years of expertise across 19 existing data centres to provide technology and services to help clients reduce costs and save energy while effectively managing risk and adding value to their organizations.
IBM has invested more than $200 million into data centre expansion nationwide, opening a new Softlayer cloud data centre recently in Toronto. This is part of the company’s $1.2 billion investment to deliver cloud services from 40 data centres in 15 countries and five continents globally, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
IBM has helped more than 30,000 clients around the world with 40,000 industry experts and 1,560 cloud patents focused on driving innovation in this area.
