Gateway today announced the availability of four new Gateway-branded notebook PCs for the upcoming holiday season, on sale beginning this weekend at leading electronics and PC retailers nationwide.
These new offerings follow Gateway’s first retail notebooks, which premiered at retailers this summer. Gateway’s move to sell PCs in retail has been a key step in its strategy to expand distribution beyond its popular direct channels.
The four new Gateway notebooks come in two new lines—thin and light PCs that combine the best aspects of mobile computing, and desktop replacement PCs, which deliver top-notch performance, larger screens and full-sized keyboards in a mobile form factor. Additionally, each of the new systems sets news levels of value for consumers by providing them with the best technology and most features possible.
“Mobile PC users want the latest technology that is powerful, reliable and easy to use, no matter what form factor they choose,” said Ed Fisher, Gateway’s senior vice president of product planning. “These new notebooks for the holiday season deliver the features that retail customers want—such as integrated wireless, media card readers and multi-format DVD burners. Also, we’re breaking new ground by offering notebooks with these features at prices that are lower than ever.”
New Thin-and-Light Notebooks Are Ready to Go
Gateway’s new thin-and-light notebooks—the Gateway® 4530GZ and Gateway 4535GZ—unite the hottest features for mobile computing: slim size, wireless connectivity, enhanced battery life and excellent performance. These systems make ideal holiday gifts for college students who trek across campus, mobile professionals who travel for business and families who don’t want to leave their PC behind on family vacations. The new notebooks weigh only 5.5 pounds(1) and measure just over one-inch thin(6), so it’s easy and convenient to take them anywhere.
The new Gateway 4530GZ and 4535GZ are optimized for mobility and powered by Intel® Pentium® M processors utilizing Intel® Mobile Centrino® Technology.(2) Both notebooks come standard with integrated WiFi 802.11g for connecting to WiFi hot spots at hotels, convention centers and college campuses as well to wireless networks at work and home. Plus, Gateway customers can stay connected during long classes and meetings, thanks to the six-cell Lithium Ion battery that delivers up to 4.5 hours of battery life on a single charge.(3)
The notebooks pack a huge amount of technology into the small form factors—and they deliver it all at a breakthrough pricing starting at just $1,349.99. Equipped with the latest technology that lets computer users enjoy digital media on the go, the new notebooks each include a large hard drive, multi-format DVD+/-RW drive, and a 4-in-1 media card reader that accepts Multimedia Card, Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro. Also, the notebooks each have one IEEE 1394 and four USB 2.0 ports, so digital images from digital cameras and digital camcorders can be downloaded while on vacation or on a business trip. Plus, the large 15-inch high resolution Ultrabright XGA TFT display makes viewing these images on the road even more enjoyable.
Desktop Replacement Notebook PCs Deliver Heightened Performance and Power
Gateway’s new 7405GX and 7210GX desktop replacement notebook PCs are the ultimate choices for PC users who value power and performance in a mobile PC. The new notebooks boast features typically found in desktop PCs, including dedicated graphics, a 6-in-one media card reader, a large widescreen display and a full-sized keyboard.
Even with all these advanced features, the new notebooks take up much less space than a desktop PC, and they don’t need to be confined to a dedicated area of the home. As a result, these PCs make great holiday gifts for families who need a PC they can take from room to room for homework, household productivity and online research. Plus, the new Gateway notebooks are network-ready with 10/100 Ethernet. They will quickly connect to a home wireless network since they come with integrated 802.11g wireless that provides up to 40 percent greater bandwidth than standard 802.11g thanks to Broadcom’s 125 High Speed Mode software.(5)
Mobile computer users will appreciate that the Gateway 7405GX and 7210GX deliver top-notch performance for productivity, digital media applications and gaming. The systems boast AMD processors for fast performance; the 7210GX uses the Athlon XP 3000+ Mobile processor, and the 7405GX uses the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+ with HyperTransport™ technology for 64-bit computing, which contributes to faster handling of digital media files and enhanced multitasking. Also, the AMD 64 processor gives the 7405GX an added layer of Antivirus protection when used with MS Windows Service Pack 2, which comes standard on this notebook. Both notebooks provide efficient management of battery resources, thanks to AMD PowerNow! Technology, which extends battery life by balancing power based on the application’s requirements.
Also, the Gateway 7405GX includes dedicated ATI Mobility RADEON 9600 graphics, and the Gateway 7210GX comes with ATI IGP3210M graphics. Both include 64MB of video memory to ensure premium performance for game playing and graphics-intense applications. The impressive high-resolution Ultrabright WXGA 15.4-inch widescreen display shows data in a letterbox format—great for viewing large word processing or spreadsheet files, as well as viewing digital photos and web pages. The vibrant widescreen display is also great for watching popular DVD movies.
The new Gateway notebook PCs are ready for digital media with multi-format DVD+/-R/RW drives, large hard drives and six-in-one media card readers that can access Compact Flash, Multimedia Card (MMC), Micro Drive, Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro. Each include one IEEE 1394 port and four USB 2.0 ports that let consumers connect to digital cameras, digital camcorders and MP3 players.
