DocSoft is currently developing a multi-format conversion engine that will convert Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). The primary purpose of this software will convert CGM to SVG, but support for conversion of other formats to SVG will be available as well. The software will also have a developer’s license and API available for integration with other software.

“We feel this is the perfect time for this software. With SVG 1.2 in draft and the impending requirement to convert technical drawings to SVG, this software will bridge the gap in data storage brought on by the use of non XML- based storage standards. An open format such as SVG will allow access to all aspects of graphical data quickly and easily,” said Keir Gordon, lead developer for this project. “Another exciting aspect in using SVG is that since it is based on XML, it can be indexed and searched, as with our own X3 Search Engine.”

The software is designed to run using Microsoft’s .NET Framework, and will allow for batch processing of conversions.

The software is currently undergoing beta testing and will be released in September 2004.
