Cognos today announced it is offering Cognos ReportNet™ on the Intel Linux platform. Cognos also announced it has extended its Red Hat Enterprise Linux certification — enabling IT decision makers to integrate reporting functionality into their Linux applications.

“Intel’s architecture is a popular customer choice for Cognos business intelligence applications and when combined with Linux, provides a unique value proposition for customers looking for high-end business intelligence,” said Jennifer Francis, Cognos vice president of business intelligence. “Linux is now a mainstream platform and a practical operating system for many of our customers, giving them more choice for their IT spend. Our commitment to Linux means we can provide enhanced solutions at a lower cost, with improved performance.”

“The economic advantage in reducing end-user investment in hardware infrastructure, as well as the cost of managing multiple servers, is a continuing driver of Linux adoption,” said David Schwantes, MIS Project Manager, Southern Cross University. “Users are getting a consistent interface, single sign-on security, and quick system responses by leveraging all the benefits of Linux clustering. We are very excited that this platform is bringing continued business value to our organization.”

Cognos ReportNet offers a complete Web-based report and query authoring environment, extensive multi-lingual support, and modern Web Services architecture to meet the needs of today’s multi-national, diversified enterprises and to dramatically reduce total cost of ownership. Built upon a service-oriented architecture, Cognos ReportNet scales to hundreds of thousands of users and draws upon Cognos’ reporting and query leadership. Linux provides extremely cost-effective support for that scalability by making it easy to add low-cost, high value performance and computing power to Cognos implementations.

In November 2004, Cognos announced that in conjunction with IBM’s Linux on POWER initiative, it was offering Cognos ReportNet on the Linux pSeries platform — a key element of the IBM eServer Linux strategy. Continuing a long-term relationship, the two companies worked closely together to develop and deliver Cognos ReportNet on Linux as part of a global multi-year agreement to drive business intelligence adoption on IBM Linux-based systems running Cognos solutions.
