Charest to announce Montreal biotech research centre at Chicago congress

    Premier Jean Charest will make the announcement in Chicago, where he will participate in a world biotechnology congress April 9-11. Charest hopes to attract investors to Quebec and to boost sector research.

    He will be accompanied by Economic Development Minister Raymond Bachand and Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay.

    Quebec has 145 biotech companies, mainly in the pharmaceutical sector, ranking it third in North America after California and Massachusetts.

    Biotechnology businesses provide 45,000 jobs in the province.
