If Canadians are having a hard time stifling
the yawns, there may be a good reason. According to a global survey on life at
home commissioned by IKEA, Canadians reported sleeping more poorly than
respondents in 21 other countries. Only 53% of Canadians surveyed said they
feel like they get a good night’s sleep, compared with 79% of respondents in
Switzerland, 73% in Norway and 71% in Russia.

Unlike the rest of the world, women in Canada are getting less sleep than
men. A separate IKEA-commissioned survey on global sleep habits found that
overall, males in North America sleep more than females. Older Canadian women
(55 years old and up) were found to sleep the least. This differs from the
other countries surveyed, which in general found that men sleep less than
women.

One of the key elements to getting a good night’s sleep is purchasing a
proper mattress. The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) recently
reviewed and recognized IKEA’s SULTAN HASSELBACK spring mattress. It is the
first mattress recognized by the CPA. A panel of three independent CPA member
physiotherapists reviewed the mattress’ features, design and construction
against an evaluation process developed by trained physiotherapists. Their
review found that the SULTAN HASSELBACK mattress is well constructed and met
the criteria for a properly supported spine.

“An independent review by a panel of physiotherapists from The Canadian
Physiotherapy Association (CPA) concluded that IKEA’s SULTAN HASSELBACK
mattress offers ample spine support that may help minimize low back pain,”
says Pamela Fralick, Chief Executive Officer of the CPA. “The CPA also
concluded that the SULTAN HASSELBACK mattress is an excellent product at a
reasonable price.”

Forty Winks Need Not Cost a Fortune.

A substantial amount of research has gone into the design of IKEA’s
SULTAN HASSELBACK spring mattress to ensure proper support to all areas of the
body. IKEA is also able to offer the SULTAN HASSELBACK mattress at a lower
price than many other similar products on the market. The queen-sized
HASSELBACK is priced at $499.00.
“Some mattresses can cost as much as a good second-hand car,” says
Madeleine Lowenborg-Frick, Public Relations Manager for IKEA Canada. “IKEA’s
SULTAN HASSELBACK mattress is made of high quality materials, yet only reaches
a fraction of that price. SULTAN mattresses are tested using a 308-pound “real
man” made of steel and wood, to ensure comfort and durability. The result is
springs that last and mattresses that will not lose their resilience over
time.”

SULTAN mattresses are also one of the few brands sold in Canada not
treated with DBRE flame-retardants, chemicals that researchers continue to
study for their effects. The SULTAN HASSELBACK spring mattress distributes the
weight of the body evenly, and in doing so eliminates pressure to any one part
of the body. The firm active pocket springs provide posture support for the
spine, while at the same time relieving pressure on the shoulders and hips.
Spring mattresses are very durable, as they can be turned in all directions to
extend the life span of the mattress. The SULTAN HASSELBACK mattress, along
with most of IKEA’s SULTAN mattress range, comes with a twenty-five year
guarantee.
