Absolute Software Leads the BYOD Evolution with Support for Employee-Owned Computers, Tablets, and Smartphones

Absolute Software Corporation, the industry standard for persistent endpoint security and management solutions for computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones, today announced they are first to market with bring your own device (BYOD) support for Mac and Windows computers. Organizations now have the ability to secure and manage employee-owned devices beyond the traditional form factors of smartphones and tablets – all from a single console.

Absolute Manage 6.5 allows organizations to maintain control over sensitive corporate data regardless of device ownership for the majority of form factors and operating systems. This comprehensive approach to device management puts control back in the hands of the organization, ensuring only properly configured devices are permitted to access corporate networks and data.

Although BYOD programs have been touted as important drivers for employee productivity, they've had the opposite effect on corporate IT. The influx of so many different devices has put IT at a disadvantage, forcing the implementation of multiple device and OS-specific products. As a result IT administrators are struggling with console fatigue and significant IT resources are required to perform standard IT work multiple times through multiple interfaces.

With Absolute Manage 6.5, BYOD capabilities have been extended, providing IT with a single console from which they can manage a variety of employee-owned devices including computers, tablets, and smartphones.

"Absolute Manage provides us with the ability to manage all the devices in our deployment including computers, tablets and smartphones. Now Absolute Manage also allows us to support employee-owned computers, securing corporate resources and optimizing employee productivity," said Karl Monnerais, Principal Technician at Transcontinental.

Absolute Manage 6.5 also supports Samsung KNOX Workspace, which is a new product name for the secure container within the platform. It offers cutting-edge core platform security that delivers a robust hardware and software integrated security foundation for the mobile enterprise.

Along with managing all devices from a single screen, IT can now provide remote Samsung device support at the employee's request. With Absolute Remote for Samsung, users can permit administrators to remotely view the service issue on the screen of a Samsung mobile device as well as remotely implement the necessary fix to resolve the service request.

"Employee-owned devices, when supported with the appropriate security and management infrastructure, can have a tremendously positive impact on user productivity and satisfaction," said Geoff Haydon, CEO at Absolute Software. "Absolute Manage 6.5 extends traditional BYOD workflows to include all of the different devices an employee may own – not just smartphones and tablets. Absolute customers with Android devices will have the additional benefit of Samsung KNOX Workspace so they can draw a clear line between corporate and personal, regardless of who owns the device."
