Microsoft is struggling in the smartphone market. Their Windows Mobile platform is no longer a strong player with rivals gaining market share.
The latest report by Gartner reveals that Windows Mobile had a market share of just around 7.9 percent in the third quarter of the year.
This has dropped down from 11 percent in the same period last year.
Apple iPhone has increased its share from 12.9 percent to 17.1 percent. Research in Motion also gained and had a market share of 20.8 percent.
Symbian too is struggling despite being the market leader. Its market share is down from 49.7 percent to 44.6 percent.
Google Android is a relatively new player in this segment. Android had a market share of 3.9 percent in the most recent quarter.
