Expect Hard Work
This seems so obvious and simple that some will wonder why we are writing about it. But, the level of output by many employees falls well below what should be expected. This is clearly a management issue that is being ignored in too many organizations. Bear in mind that productivity is one of the most important factors in determining profitability. And the pace at which people work has a big bearing on productivity. Many employees visit with fellow employees too much while others can be found making too many personal phone calls. Still others simply work at too slow a pace. When employees appear to be working at a level that is below expectations, it is important to coach them to higher levels of output. Most will respond. Others will not and will continue to produce at a lower than expected level which should lead to some form of disciplinary action.
